Yin Yoga - Saturday 22 Feb 2014

I've been asked for the Yin Yoga sequence from yesterday's class by a few people, so here it is. The big focus of this class was feeling the rebound of the poses after the loooong holds, and learning when to hold back and when to push. Please take it easy as you move into these poses, and please take at least a minute after each pose to feel your body respond to the deep work you're doing to your tissue.

Half Saddle 8 mins each side (savasana)
Butterfly 8 mins (windshield wipe knees to counterpose, then Savasana to rebound)
Half Dragonfly 8 mins each side, 4 mins in twist (savasana)
Sukhasana/Square 8 mins each side (windshield wipe knees to counterpose, then Savasana to rebound)
Dead Bug (with strap optional) 6 mins
Freestyle, hip rotations, tantrumasana :) 3 mins
Savasana 10 mins

28 Days of Yin

Some of you may be aware that we're undertaking the very fun 28 Days of Yin social experiment...how does slowing down for five minutes every day make YOU feel?

I've been asked to create a permanent folder on our Facebook page featuring all the poses, and I'll be writing a couple of sequences to share with you guys, using some of the poses we've shared, so you can keep your home practice going if you wish.

It's been fun (though I can't say I enjoy having my photos plastered all over the internets! haha).

Yoga for All Christmas Opening Hours

Lovely yogis, the wonderful Richard Kelly has kindly offered to 'studio sit' while Lyra and I are away, so it's with great delight that we offer you our Christmas/New Year timetable. Be sure to get your yoga fix with Richard if you're not heading away, he's a beautiful teacher and has some luscious two-hour practices planned for you to soak up. Lyra's back on the 6th, but Rich will be continuing to offer classes on Sunday for the whole month of January, see below for details. I'm going to miss you all a tonne, can't wait to be back on the mat with you at Yoga for All. :) Have a great Christmas and New Year! xx Tahnee

Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

At Yoga for All, we love a green smoothie! Especially in summer! Great for breakfast, or for a mid-afternoon snack. A green smoothie is quick, light, yet filling, healthy and packed full of goodness.

Here's a basic green smoothie recipe that's easily adaptable to whatever you have on hand. I'd recommend buying nice, ripe, organic bananas once a week and peeling, chopping and freezing them so you always have some on hand for a yummy smoothie. Other good things to keep on hand are: frozen organic berries, spirulina powder, chia seeds and good quality vegan protein powder.

Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

Serves 1

Ingredients

1 frozen banana
1 mango cheek (again, great to freeze when they're in season if you buy a tray...) (you can replace with berries, kiwi etc)
1/4 avocado
1 - 2 tbs coconut yoghurt (I like Alpine; Coyo is too rich for me.)
1/2 c Bonsoy/almond milk/coconut water (you may need to add more or less to get the consistency right for you)
1 tbs macadamia butter
2 scoops vegan protein powder (Sunwarrior is my fave, or Thorpe MediClear)
1 tsp spirulina/greens powder (you can also use greens like baby spinach or kale, approx 2 handfuls, or 1 cup, is a good amount)
1 tsp chia seeds

Method

Throw in blender. I find it best to add liquids/yoghurt, then powders/supplements, then frozen fruit/seeds/nut butters. Blend til it's the colour of the Hulk! Add more or less liquid depending on how thick/creamy you like it. And that's it! Serve with bee pollen, chia seeds (pictured), flaked organic coconut, whatever you can dream up. Throw into a jar to make it portable.

If you try the recipe, or make any modifications, let me know. :)
