Getting your anatomy to 'turn on' during a yoga practise can often be confusing because you want to listen to what the teacher says, you want to get better at this thing called yoga, but you have a bunch of unique asymmetries that is the elephant in the room that nobody else can witness. 

So what do we do?

As we start our yoga journey, we learn all of the basic moves and as time goes on we get that we need to do the things that we are not so good at, more often. Eventually we come face to face with our expert teacher/s in a 1-2-1 situation and we have accumulated enough self-sense to know what to ask and are ready to address it in a way that out body needs.

This workshop explores the asymmetries that come up in classical yoga poses such as lunges and warriors. During these occasions we feel the difference in our shoulders and hips yet we try to do things exactly the same on both sides.

During this taught class, there will be break out opportunities for you to explore moments of true self-practise, the one that really counts! You will have the space to play with making these minor self adjustments to establish that amazing feeling that you totally deserve to have!

Jambo is a multi-disciplinary practitioner and one of the few selected Forrest Yoga Guardians, hand picked by Ana Forrest to share the teachings of Forrest Yoga. 

Jambo holds a degree in Complementary Medicine and has special interests in Functional Anatomy, Muscle Testing & Classical Asian Medicine. 

When not teaching or presenting, Jambo can be found immersed in reading up on Biomechanics research and when he is not working at all he spends his time immersed in the meditative states of the Quantum Field or dancing around a fire. 

He lives in London, with his partner, where they share an alter to Disney as well as The Great Spirit

We met in Malaysia under the tutelage of the great Jambo “Dragon” Truong and being one of the only few people delivering the delights of Forrest Yoga in Australia we figured we’d join forces to amp up the level of assistance and guidance we can offer you guys.

Robbie Baldwin

Robbie discovered the healing and transformational power of yoga at 25 after the death of his mother.  He is inspired and trained in many traditions including Satyananda, Forrest, Jivamukti, Vinyasa and Yin.  His quest is to teach the real meaning of yoga to students in the West without freaking them out. Robbie currently teaches at various locations in Sydney including Body Mind Life.

Lyssa Spencer

Lyssa brought Forrest Yoga to Newcastle and has since gone on to study under various modalities including Thai Yoga massage, Chi Nei Tsang and of course Functional Anatomy and Bodywork. She brings a blend of her various learnings into her teachings which makes her style eclectic, diverse and refreshingly unpredictable. She is passionate about making yoga accessible to all, irrespective of age, ability, shape or size.

Experience this unique 3-hour intensive workshop with Five Element acupuncturist Mark Hoppe & Yin Yoga teacher Tahnee McCrossin.

A working knowledge of the Five Elements of Chinese medicine and one's own Constitutional Element allows a yoga practitioner to understand why they react in a certain way to stressors, be they on the mat or in their life. Integrating the ancient wisdom of Taoist Chinese Medicine with current mind-body research and the ancient practice of Taoist (Yin) Yoga, this workshop will help you to begin to understand the elemental types and how to manage stress and enhance your life through this wisdom.

Mark and Tahnee will lead you through a practical and experiential introduction to the Five Elements, exploring the invitation to transformation contained within each element, as well as supportive practices including diet/tonic herbs, lifestyle and, of course, yoga.

Mark Hoppe completed a 4-year degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2002. Since 2005 he has focused on 5 Element Acupuncture, training with master practitioners in Australia, UK and USA. Mark is passionate about what he calls "dirty hands spirituality" - seeing the truth of who we are, both light and dark - and finding the invitation to growth in every block and challenge. He finds 5 Element Acupuncture to be an excellent tool in this regard.

Tahnee McCrossin has a deep passion for Taoist (Yin) Yoga, abdominal massage (chi ne tsang) and herbalism and integrates her direct experience working with and on the organs and the body's energetic and physical systems into her teaching. Tahnee studies Taoism and Yin Yoga with Mantak Chia and Paul Grilley respectively and Planetary Herbalism wiht Michael Tierra, and is the founder of Yoga for All. Yin Yoga Immersion (3hr) w/ Tess

Unwind tensions, create space & heal in an extended Yin Yoga practice guided by Tess. This 3hr immersion will allow you to dive deeper and revitalise the connective tissue (fascia) of the body while melting into a valley of extended stillness. 

 

The immersion will focus mostly from 'navel to knee' area of the body, moving deeply into the hips. If your hips are tight it will affect the rest of your body. You will walk out of the practice with a new sense of freedom, ready to dance the night away (or curl up on the couch all blissed out with a cuppa)!

 

You will move beyond the regular yin class into longer held postures tailored to your own individual body with the support & adjustments offered by Tess. This practice is for those who have attended a yin class previously and are looking to expand their practice. 

 

Wear warm clothes including socks and make sure you have something light to eat before the practice.

YIN YOGA & ART THERAPY WORKSHOP


 

Tap into your inner world through a wholistic 3.5hr workshop moving through the water element - body & psyche. The workshop is designed to make space for stillness, reflection and nourishment that can be carried through the season of Winter.

 

Tess will be guiding you through a 90min yin yoga practice. Yin yoga encourages you to move more deeply into the body and more deeply into stillness. The practice will focus on stimulating and replenishing our kidney and bladder organs/meridians (energy channels). Once your body has been unlocked, Naomi will be guiding you through a series of therapeutic processes with an intention of growing self-awareness and healing.


 

We often hold an energetic memory of stuck emotions and old traumas in our bodies. Yin yoga allows us to drop into deeper conversations with ourselves and puts us into the perfect energetic alignment to do deep soul work. To dance safely with our darkness.


 

Transpersonal art therapy relies on the wisdom we all inherently hold and uses mark making (no artistic skill required) to give expression to what lies under the surface. Under the water. With winter solstice occurring only a few days before this workshop, what better time to check in with ourselves and prepare for those colder months of self reflection - connecting with yourself, like minds and a sense of the sacred.


 

Afternoon tea and art supplies are included in the workshop cost.

A day to reflect, restore and re-inspire.

In order to show up fully in our relationships, friendships, work place, family life and really just life in general it is integral that we take time for ourselves to care, nourish and top up our ‘batteries’.

RE-TREAT is a day retreat set in the heart of Newcastle and is designed to offer a momentary refuge from our otherwise chaotic lives.

The intention is to offer a space where we can take precious time to pause and observe where we are in our own personal journey of life, what current obstacles are presenting and how can we develop tools to help us manage our lives with less struggle.

Our voices can hold a key for our own health, healing, and well-being.  Chanting is one of the lesser known and used tools of Yoga, using sound in the form of mantra, helping to connect from our heart. It can help us 'find our voice' in life as well has hold many other benefits for healing.

Adhyayanam (Vedic Chanting) is a useful tool in quietening the mind and as a preparation for dhyana (meditation) but also can be a meditative process in itself.

What to expect in this introductory session:

  • The history of Vedic Chanting
  • What is mantra?
  • Benefits of chanting for focus, developing breath, bringing calm to body & mind and more.
  • Basic rules and techniques eg the primary notes, the importance of punctuation, timing, and strength of sound.
  • Learn simple mantras to introduce basic rules followed by one or two basic chants, taught in call and response format.
  • How to incorporate mantra into asana practice

Beverly is a full time Yoga Teacher and Therapist based in Taree and Old Bar on the Mid North Coast of NSW and is the founder of Healing Heart Yoga, a Yoga centre dedicated and committed to the tradition of Yoga as taught by Sri T Krishnamacharya –teaching Yoga as it best suits the changing needs of each individual person. Emotions are the centre of gravity of our day-to-day experience. They influence the nervous system and our perceptions and judgments of self, body, and world. This workshop offers a much-deserved treatment of emotional experience in self-development, using movement and stillness. We will dive into techniques for activating expansive emotional states and leveraging them to uproot long-standing emotional blockages that give rise to restrictive thought patterns and somatic/bodily tensions. The result will be a foundational toolkit for emotional processing and balance in self-development.

The workshop will consist of lecture, guided instruction, light asana/movement, seated introspection, discussion, and a backdrop of supportive live instrumentals. Suitable for all levels. Practitioners are invited to bring a mat, cushion, and pen and paper for note-taking as desired.

In this 1 hr hour weekly course you will learn to use your foam roller to stretch, strengthen and massage the whole body.A roller works the same way as a massage, by breaking up the fibrous tissue that has built up so you have better circulation and energy flow, reducing exercise related muscle sorenessand stress. If you use the foam roller regularly you will have less muscle tension and pain and enhanced range of motion.Foam rollers can be used in a variety of different yoga poses and postures and can help you balance and release your muscles .

Performing exercises on an unstable surface is a surefire way to engage more core muscles and make total-body exercises.

What is Forrest Yoga?

 

Forrest Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical and internally focused practice that emphasizes how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life.  The practice challenges students to access their whole being and to use Forrest Yoga as a path to finding and then cleansing the emotional and mental blocks that dictate and limit their lives.  Students cultivate an acute awareness of their own practice and life process, creating a unique and powerful opportunity for them to make practical life decisions based on their own experiences.

Mummas, book in and bring along your 'not yet crawling babe' on Wednesdays 10-11.00 am for some beautiful yoga with Emmy. Mums and bubs yoga is a great opportunity to connect with yourself after pregnancy and birth AND connect with other mums and babies.

The courses are 4-week duration developing physical strength within the framework of a vinyasa Hatha yoga practice. You will also learn techniques in connecting with your baby on a holistic level. This includes skills in overcoming anxiety associated with the demanding role of being a new parent. You do not need yoga experience and you definitely do not need a quiet baby! The course is so much more than yoga, you will connect with your baby and with like-minded mums. ♥
